Niyra is an African Musician born in Cameroon but migrated to the USA; but even then she has not lost touch with her African heritage and culture as her music is imbued with the warm African feel and vibrant jubilation. She has a towering command in her delivery and vocality. Her latest EP “Africa: My Future” is the epitome of quality production; it is short, precise with succinct lyrics that will have you bouncing with indescribable joy at the genuine passion in her delivery. She strikes the perfect balance between vulnerable lyrics and confidence in her performance as her undeniable authenticity signifies an artist who has seen it all and is not scared to dive into the blue ocean of possibilities where all sorts of magic are born. Niyra starts us off with a stupendous melody in the tune “Na who be You” which is as catchy as its unique title. It is a tremendous song in all aspects and is backed by the power of an intricate blend of Naija beats; this complemented by her projecting voice that fits in perfectly with the rhythm creates a sing-along track that you want to listen to all day without stopping. It has been decorated with an impressive blend of rhythmic instruments to produce a cohesive flow that captures its essence, tonality and soundscape perfectly.
If you don’t want any danger then her second track “Wahala Dey” is the kind of bulletproof you need; it is delivered with her virtuosic vocals and jubilant passion to design a magnetic sound and vibe that is both intoxicating and relaxing- listening to it and it creates all these endless emotions and you don’t know which to go with and which to leave, it’s a cocktail of emotions. This cannot be a bad thing, right? “Doremi” has the nostalgic vibe of the first music lessons all Africans were introduced to back in school. Picture this as a music introduction class and everyone is shouting their lungs out, “Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do”; this particular song took me on a reminiscent journey and her commanding voice balanced impeccably with the shimmering beats breathe new life into the innovative sound marrying effortlessly with the crisp rhythm to fashion a stellar unique African-influenced musical sound.
Her last track, “Hello” is improvised artistically to blend into a crossbreed of genres with the R&B rhythmic elements imbued to the Afrobeats inspired background instruments to produce a groundbreaking sound that is out of this world. Niyra collaborated with Kolade Bless whose technically coached powerful vocals integrate perfectly with Niyra’s own commanding voice to create a moment of vocal unity that is immersive, addictive, and indescribably beautiful. This would definitely slap with intriguing magic as a live performance. This African experience is what you need to relieve you off your sorrows and feel inspired and since the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams; Niyra is a dreamer who is going to take the musical world by a storm while at the comfort of her home; where she feels she belongs.
