Lachi, an award-winning Black female blind musician, has shattered boundaries and defied expectations throughout her life. She transformed her experiences of overcoming societal limitations into a relentless drive to not just prove others wrong but to truly excel. Her achievements are a testament to her incredible resilience and talent. As a person living with a disability, Lachi understands firsthand the challenges that come with it. Yet she has turned these challenges into a source of strength and inspiration. Her advocacy work is a beacon of hope for those underrepresented in society, including the sexually marginalized and individuals labeled as misfits. Lachi’s message is clear as the light of day: “Yes, I can do it because I am capable.”

Lachi’s impact extends beyond her music. She founded RAMPD (Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities), an organization dedicated to amplifying disability culture and promoting accessibility within the music industry. This initiative not only breaks down barriers but also paves the way for future generations of artists with disabilities.

Joining forces with globally celebrated musicians and performers, Lachi has something big coming up: a series concert dubbed “Mad Different” that was filmed at Amazon Music Studios in NYC and which celebrates diversity in all forms as well as championing for equal rights for all those of us abled differently. It is a selfless drive that brings people close together, all inspired by humanity and the need to treat everyone of us equally no matter their physical appearance, sexuality, or other affiliations.

“Out of the Dark” is a collaborative tour de force from this project and one that delves deep into themes of self-liberation and the embracing of one’s authentic self. It is a defiant masterpiece that does not tiptoe around its subject matter, vividly capturing the deep inspiration with graphic details.

Lachi lays the perfect foundation with her mellifluent keys, setting a pleasant backdrop for her passionate vocals as she sings emotively with a purposeful tone, her expressive vocals slinking beautifully over the gentle piano keys. The song’s depth is highlighted by the enticing bongos by Lisette, the colorfully cello dexterously played by Mercedes, and the sleek bass tones from Caylen’s skillful fingerprints.

Medusa adds another innovative flair with their spoken word artistry, poetically elevating the song as they capture that queer pride articulately.

The track has an accompanying performance video—visually striking with an intimate setting, making it not just something to hear but something to see and feel.

That’s not all, as there is a splendid acoustic cover of this song available. It is sumptuous with a palpable feeling thanks to the intimate keys and cello that provide an attractive backdrop for Lachi’s heartfelt vocals and Medusa’s poetic expression.

Thus far, Lachi’s journey has been a powerful narrative of resilience, advocacy, and exceptional talent. She continues to push boundaries, elevate voices, and inspire countless individuals worldwide. Through her music, advocacy, and leadership, Lachi embodies the spirit of perseverance and empowerment, making her a true icon and inspiration. This song and the upcoming “Mad Different” concert are undeniable proof of that.
