This is the new voice of vision taking shape with the new fashionable and generational evocative emo sound that has been making waves in the mainstream today. This is none other than the inspiring story of a 19-year-old emo rapper Kxfi Luv hailing from Atlanta who expresses his pain, sorrow, heartbreak, distress, trauma, and all manner of conflicting emotions through music and his dreamy powerful emo vocal outlets. The everlasting story of heartbreak continues and this latest album “Diaries of a Deadman Vol. 2” is an all genuine masterclass as he put his heart into making it. It’s in all in equal parts endearing and grating. This is the type of discography that I can describe as his heart-on-his-sleeve coping sounds with are both ingratiating and grating. The tracks are backed by a moderate understanding and interest in varied melodies and cadences. The whole of this art piece is a huge statement to the open vulnerability that an artist like Kxfi Luv has embraced from the emo rap scene inspired by emotionally vulnerable lyrics imbued with teenage angst. His vocal style veers on melancholic and he unapologetically goes hard on some of the tracks with exploding vent to keep listeners firmly on their toes with each passing track.
This is the type of music that makes time stop and I was particularly at a conundrum on which tracks to review seeing that all of them are worthy contenders of certified platinum music. This is music focusing on every broken heart and every wounded feeling. What a listener will enjoy from subscribing to this mad vibe is hip hop, emo rap, and Soundcloud music with a penchant for short, hook-heavy melodies. What these tracks have is uniqueness and balance seeing that sometimes the world is not really light or happy or light place; all this has been captured evocatively.
The opening track “Devilish Boy” performed in that off-the-cuff rhyming style that goes ahead to confirm that Kxfi is a prodigious producer whom on hearing a beat instantaneously conceives an idea. The technical lyricism, intricate flows, tongue-twisting wordplay, inventive flow, and memorable flows on display is a marvelous assault on the senses. The atmospheric synths over heavy beats, the deep-phased bass, and pounding 808’s render this track euphoric with mood-evoking quality. The kicking drums, the brash percussion, and the teenage angst in his vocals come off as ‘devilish’ and he does not deny this coming off as scary and giving this track that horrifying cinematography of a thrilling horror movie that is set to give you some sleepless nights but you just don’t mind at all. Even the background cries confirm that effect and intriguingly help build a soundscape of dark intent. The instrument organs used for this track specifically resonate well with the song’s title and grant “Devilish Boy” a full and foreboding atmosphere as it develops vocally. Kxfi Luv seems distant but very much present within the sonic space, his harsh vocals giving significant weight that belie a sense of devilish on the rise. The post-emo trap energies conspire to develop “Devilish Boy” into a strong introduction to the unholy circus; layering a groundwork that should ensnare the attention and even the affections of most of the genre!
